Mario Joseph "Butch" DiAngelo, Sr.
Age 95 of New Castle
Mario passed peacefully at his home on April 14, 2022. He was born to the late Irmina and Antonio DiAngelo on July 27, 1926 and was raised in Shawtown. Mario worked at American Brake Shoe, Delaware Floor, and retired from Chrysler in 1988 after 30 years of service. Mario was in the Delaware National Guard for over 20 years and was activated in 1950 during the Korean War. Mario graduated from St. Peters Grade School and William Penn High School, where he excelled in football and baseball. During the 1940s, he played football and baseball for St. Anthony's in New Castle and St. Anthony's in Wilmington. He was also an excellent swimmer, dancer, and in his later years played softball for St. Anthony's of New Castle. Mario enjoyed making homemade wine and playing bocce ball, winning his last tournament at age 90. He loved to play Morra Italian Numbers game and Boss after his bocce games. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's and St. Gabe's of New Castle. He enjoyed watching football and baseball, especially the Eagles, Phillies, and Notre Dame.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; children, Shelia DiAngelo, and Anthony DiAngelo; grandson, Matthew; and his siblings, Orlando (Dindy), George, Helen Vari, Jeanette Cianfarino, and Loretta Cook (Bob).
He is survived by his sons, Mario Jr. (Sharon), Joseph, David (Annette), and Mark; his 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his cousin Joe Joe DiAngelo (Diane); brother-in-law, William Gott (Janie); nephews, Joseph Vari, and Thomas Cook; and nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend The Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 521 Harmony St., New Castle, DE on Friday, April 22 at 11:00am. Friends may call at the church from 10:00am-11:00am. Burial will take place at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on May 3 at 11:00am.
