Lewes, DE - Mary Alice Budd ("Mema/Meme") of Wilmington, DE passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025 at the age of 92. She was born on July 13, 1933 in Colorado Springs, CO. She spent many of her younger years growing up in Gunnison, CO and Houston, TX prior to moving to Delaware. She always loved talking about her native state of Colorado and her Texas family roots.
She was preceded in death by her parents Isaac Austin ("Jack") and Teresa Elma ("Ese") Meyers, husband Ray and son Mark. She is survived by her son Dean (Christel Skaug) and daughter Donna Grygo (Marty). She was very proud of her seven grandchildren: Melissa Budd (Tyler Shaffer), Mark Budd (Lauren), Danny Budd (Maggie), Jacob Budd (Sullivan Boulden), Joseph Grygo (Shannon Robison), Adam Grygo, and Alison Grygo. She also doted on her three great grandchildren: Willow, Luca, and Liza. She is also survived by her brother George Meyers (Alida), brother in law Mike Budd (June), several nephews/nieces, and a large circle of extended friends, many of whom considered her a second mom.
Mary Alice worked for several years as an executive secretary at the DuPont Company before dedicating herself to raising her three children. She created a home where visitors were greeted with open arms, whether it was for Christmas Eve at the Budd's or tailgates at UD. Ray and Mary Alice's door was always open to friends, and their home became a cherished gathering place, where a few even chose it as a place to propose.
Mary Alice was active in the Del Vets women's auxiliary, an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, and an even bigger supporter of any activity involving her family. She had a true talent for art and crafts, pouring much love into preserving memories in scrapbooks the family will cherish for years to come.
A celebration of life will be held on August 13, 2025, from 1-3pm at Del Vets Post #1, 2535 Veterans Dr, Wilmington, DE 19810.
