Mary S. Dolson
Age 95, passed away on Sat., May 21, 2011, at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Hospital.
Mary was raised in Pine Apple, AL. She graduated from Moore Academy in 1934, where she was on the basketball team. She graduated from University of Alabama in 1938.
Mary came to New Castle, DE, in 1945 to teach at William Penn High School, where she taught English. She retired in 1970, after 25 years of service. She was an active member of the faculty, and even starred in the play Arsenic and Old Lace. Mary was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association.
Mary married Harry T. "Duke" Dolson in 1947. She was confirmed in the Immanuel Episcopal Church in 1950.
She enjoyed many activities, including oil painting, flower arranging, picture framing, and many other crafts, but most of all gardening. This was her passion. She was a devoted aunt and Godmother.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Duke, her brother, Torrey Slaughter, and her niece Caryl A. Proud Horty.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Blanche Proud, her nephew, Gary Proud, and his wife, Pat, her niece and Goddaughter, Barbara Proud, and her partner, Allison, and other distant relatives in Alabama.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service on Thurs., May 26, 2011, at 2:00 pm at Krienen Funeral Home, 34 West 6th St., New Castle, DE. Interment at the Glebe Cemetery, New Castle, DE
