Mary Griffiths
94 years of age, passed away suddenly on December 27, 2011 at Christiana
Care Hospital in Newark, DE, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born in
Fulton, NY on April 8, 1917 to Andrew and Rose Ewanicki.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, John David Griffiths;
Sisters, Julia, Anne, and Jen; brother, John; and grandson, Weston. She is survived by her five children: J. Eric Griffiths (Kim) of Golden, CO; J. Elaine Cole (William) of New Castle, DE; Anne M. Griffiths of Palm Coast, FL; Susan Stiebing (Leroy)of Brevard, NC; Mary Beth Pavitt (Gene) of Solebury, PA; nine grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Mary moved to Newark, DE in 2006 to be closer to her children. She resided in the
independent living section at Millcroft Manor. She previously lived in Palm Coast, FL,
where she and her husband were active in the Presbyterian church and several golf clubs;in Shamokin, PA, where John owned Anthra Textiles, where they raised their children, and were active in school and community affairs; and in Fulton NY, where she and John met and married.
Mary had a thirst for knowledge throughout her life. She was an accomplished artist who painted in oils, knitted, and created prize -winning cross stitch pieces. A voracious reader from early childhood until her death, she was also a lover of baseball, and never missed a Phillies game after moving to Delaware. Mary enjoyed gardening and music, having played the violin and mandolin. Her greatest pride and joy was the loving and caring relationship she shared with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Interment will be at Mount Abnah Cemetery, Fulton, NY, in April.
