Obituary

Mary M. Truitt, 82, of New Castle, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.

Mary "Toot" Gallagher Truitt is loved and survived by 6 children: Betty Ann Fedynyshyn, Rosemary Truitt (Glenn Wilson), Debbie Roberts (John), Sharon Williams Faust (Fred), Madelyn Bryson (Billy), and Edward L. Truitt, Jr. (Nancy). She also has 10 terrific grandchildren: Stephanie (Mike), (Kate Williams), William, Andrew (Jessica), Matthew, Edward III, Thomas, Ashley, Christopher, and John Michael, and 5 energetic great-grandchildren: Trent, Devin, Logan, Callie, and Liam. Mary was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years Edward L. Truitt, Sr., grandson Daniel E. Williams, and son-in-law Danny Williams. She will always be remembered for her lifelong love and commitment to her family, her friends, and the youth of the community.

Mary was a devout Roman Catholic, and member of St. Peter the Apostle parish, where she belonged to the BVM Sodality, Social Club, and many other church committees. Her fierce determination, competitive drive, and winning attitude defined her "spunky" character. She will be remembered for her endless generosity and feisty IRISH spirit. Mrs. Truitt's passion for coaching-cheerleading, softball, volleyball, and basketball, was secondary only to her role as Number One fan to her children & grandchildren.

Mary was especially proud to have lived all her life in Old New Castle, where she was well known and respected. She poured her heart and soul into making the community better by starting Phys Ed classes, the first school lunch program and the President's Physical Fitness Program at St. Peter's School. She also implemented the City of New Castle Parks and Recreation Program, and later worked for the city of New Castle Administrative Offices. She is truly loved and will be dearly missed.
