Maryanna A. R. Bender
(Glazewski)

Age 93, passed away under the magnificent care of Compassionate Care Hospice on Monday, May 12, 2014.

Maryanna was born on December 7, 1920 on Linden Street in the Hedgeville section of Wilmington. She graduated from St. Peter Cathedral Grade School and St. Paul Commercial School.

She was a fastidious housekeeper and creative cook practically to the end of her life. She was the quintessential mother to the end, as well.

Of the many employments she had, she treasured working for Dr. Louis and Henja Centrella. Among her myriad of duties was caring for their children, Candice and John.

Maryanna was preceded in death by her parents, Jozef and Pauline Glazewski; her first husband, Joseph A. Ruffin; her second husband, Peter J. Bender; her brothers, Edward and Stanley Glazewski; her sisters, Ann Geyer and Julia Glazewski.

She is survived by her son, Patrick S. J. Ruffin; her brother, Joseph Glazewski; her niece, Margaret (Joseph) Passarelli; her grandnephew, Zachary Passarelli; grandniece, Zoe Passarelli; goddaughter, Jane Cusack; and many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Cathedral, 500 North West Street, Wilmington, on Friday, May 16, 2014, at 1:00 pm. A viewing will take place at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere, on Friday, May 16, 2014, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.
