Obituary

Matthew Z. Janicki Jr. – age 53 of New Castle went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2018 after a long, hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Born to Matt and Marjorie Janicki, he was the oldest of four children.

Matt served in the Delaware Army National Guard for 28 years. He was employed as a Senior Application Support Specialist at State of Delaware. He found his greatest joy coaching his own children and many others at Our Lady of Fatima, Saint Peter's, St. Elizabeth, and New Castle Little League. In recent years, Matt began his dream job as a high school football coach.

In his free time, he loved to play golf, take pictures, attend concerts, and watch Notre Dame and Green Bay Packers football. But above all Matt treasured time spent with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Marjorie; and his sister, Maura Romanik.

He leaves behind his "beautiful" wife of 27 years, Donna Jones Janicki; and the joys of his life, his children, Matthew III, Marissa, and Samuel; his sister, Monica Esterling (Bill); and brother, Martin (Shana); nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends. He will also be dearly missed by the hundreds of athletes from the many different sports teams he coached.

Although exhaustion and pain were ever present, he fought courageously until the end, never giving up, and serving as a role model for all those who witnessed his strength and determination.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 13 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth R.C. Church. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, June 12 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Interment will take place in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery immediately following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 or pancan.org/donate
