Obituary

Michael M. McClain, Sr.
January 24, 1936 – July 26, 2025

Michael M. "Mick" McClain, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on July 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years old.

Born on January 24, 1936, in Monaca, Pennsylvania, Mick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Rosemary; his daughter, Deborah; and his parents, Edward J. "Ted" and Catherine McClain.

He is survived by his children: Michelle, Karen Johnstone (Russell), Michael Jr. (Patricia), Mary J. Middleton, Patrick (Cecilia), Brian (Christy), and Colleen Holstein (Greg); his siblings, Kathleen Lee, Judy Bergiel (Blaise), and Bill; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mick attended Kiski Prep School and the University of Pennsylvania prior to proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Georgia from 1955 to 1957. After his honorable discharge, he went on to a long and successful career as Plant Manager at Laidlaw Corporation in Monaca, PA, and New Castle, DE, where he worked for 41 years.

A man of deep faith and community service, Mick was actively involved in St. Peter's Parish, serving on the Parish Council and as Treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society for many years. He was also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. His commitment to youth extended through decades of coaching both CYO and Little League baseball and softball.

Mick was happiest when surrounded by his family. His home was always open to his children and their friends, a place filled with warmth, laughter, and love. He and Rosemary loved to travel—following their children's sporting events across the country, cruising to Hawaii and the Caribbean, enjoying summer vacations in Bethany Beach, and wintering in Key Largo and Clearwater, Florida.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 521 Harmony Street, New Castle, DE. A second viewing and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
