Obituary

Michael S. Rostocki, III
AGE: 74 • Wilmington

Peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.

Michael was born in Wilmington to Rose Rostocki Oken and the late Michael S. Rostocki, Jr. He grew up and lived in Wilmington his entire life. He went to St. Elizabeth Grade School and graduated from Salesianum School. While at "Sallies", he made many friends, and those friendships were maintained throughout his adult life.

He was an avid car enthusiast and participated in local drag racing events as a teenager. He owned Towne Auto Sales on Kirkwood Highway for several years. In later years, he worked in sales for many car dealerships. He could diagnose the condition of a car without tools by just listening to its engine.

Michael graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, where he earned his degree, served his apprenticeship with the Medical Examiner's Office, and became a licensed funeral director. After working for several funeral directors, he opened his first funeral home on Van Buren Street. The neighbors often set their watches to the trademark clock that was maintained at the corner of the property. Several years ago, Michael sold that property and totally renovated a funeral home on Broom Street, which had been vacant for several years. Rostocki Funeral Home is currently located at that address.

He cared about the community and had a passion for local politics, and he was a candidate in several local elections.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael S. Rostocki, Jr., and his son, Michael S. Rostocki, IV, who was his partner in his automobile restoration business. He is survived by his sons, Jamie (Jen) and Josh. He was proud of his grandchildren, Chase and Max, and Tyler, who he saw every day and who brought him such laughter and joy. He is also survived by his mother, Rose Rostocki Oken; his sister and caretaker, Janet R. Protack, and her husband, Peter Paul Protack, Jr.; his nephew, Tim Betoni (Anne Marie); his long-time companion and friend, Sharon Simon, who stood by him for many years; his cousin, Leo Rostocki, who never forgot his birthday; his friends at the Prince of Piedmont Club, who called and visited often, as well as Mike's Broom Street neighbors and Chuck Wagon alumni. A special thank you to Paul Sullivan and his family for their endless support and concern.

The family is grateful for the excellent care of Delaware Hospice, including Latrina and Dr. Shah. A special thank you is extended to his aides, Jessica, Mary, and Aleshia.

Michael lived a colorful and robust life to the end. He was a good friend who would open his home if you needed a place to stay and was always there for those who needed him. He is at peace now with the two Michaels he loved dearly, his dad and his son.
