Obituary

Norman Williamson, Sr.
"POP-O"
Norman passed on Monday, June 20th quietly at home as he wished, surrounded by his adoring family.
Norman was born in Norwood, PA. on September 5, 1928 to the late Arthur and Bessie Williamson. He was the eighth child born of nine.
Norm grew up in Hockessin on Valley Road with many of the mushroom farmers and their families, and in Wilmington.
In 1945 Norm enlisted in the Navy, and served aboard the USS Thomas Edison DD439 as a Boiler Tech. After his Navy enlistment, he joined the Army, and served in Japan and Korea as an M.P. He finished up his military service in the Navy in 1951.
In 1952 Norm married his teenage sweetheart Marie (DeLuca). Norman and Marie moved to Elsmere in 1956 to raise their family. In 1957 he became involved in the Elsmere CAA, and for the next 20 years coaching baseball became a big part of his life. Beginning in the Little League, moving to Babe Ruth, and on to American Legion, most of the young men from those memorable years were all coached by, or knew, "Norm".
He was a lifetime member of American Legion Durney Post.
In 1964 Norm started a business with George H. Burns. He continued to work in the George H. Burns, Inc. HAVC business his entire life. Over the years, many of his customers relied in his expertise, and friendly advice when they needed HVAC work done in their homes.
In 1975 Norman and Marie moved to Odessa, DE where enjoying his grandchildren and great – grandchildren became his passion.
He also enjoyed collecting rare coins, antiques, nostalgic magazines, scrap booking every article written that covered the Wilmington Blue Rocks since 1993, and listening to old radio programs. His 1941 Chevy was his prize antique. He also took pride in his lawn and landscaping.
Norm was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, John-John; his five brothers, Edward, Earl, Arthur, Richard, Orville; and his sisters, Ruth Jones and Loretta Heverin. Norm is survived by Marie his loving wife of 59 years; his son, Michael – (Christine); his daughter, Candie Gravino- (Dante); his sons, Norman Jr., and John; his sister, Doris; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, that loved him dearly.
