Patrick Joseph Dempsey
Patrick Joseph Dempsey, age 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care at Christiana Hospital. He had suffered severe brain trauma from an accident one week earlier. The son of S. Ross Dempsey and Mary Lynch Dempsey, Pat was born February 8, 1954 in the Forty Acres in Wilmington. He attended St. Ann School, Salesianum, and Wilmington High School.
Pat was a long-time member of the St. Peter's Cathedral, Wilmington, and was known to many as a kind man who went out of his way to help people in need. He often prepared meals for the homeless and would donate his money to charity. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially enjoyed entertaining the toddlers at family events.
In addition to his parents, Pat is survived by six brothers and sisters: Kathleen, Michael, Barbara Garcia (Hector); Timothy, Stephen (Kathleen) and Mary Frances Becker (Robert.) He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, November 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Church Road, Greenville, Delaware; visitation with the family will precede the service from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Patrick Dempsey EDR Memorial Fund, Emmanuel Dining Room, Ministry of Caring, 506 N. Church St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
