Paul Michael Schofield, Jr.

Paul Michael Schofield, Jr., of Wilmington, DE, passed away July 25, 2026, at the age of 61, after facing a long illness with remarkable courage and determination until the very end.

 Born in Great Neck, New York, Paul was the son of Paul Schofield, Sr., and Carol Hane Schofield. The family later settled in Delaware, where Paul attended St. Ann's School, Salesianum School, the University of Delaware, and Widener Law School.

 Football was Paul's first love, and he excelled in the sport. His accomplishments earned him All-State honors in 1983, and an invitation to play in the Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game.

 As the oldest brother to Andrew and Dennis, Paul embraced the role with equal parts protector and instigator. He showed his affection through teasing, practical jokes, jumping out of trees to scare them, and countless other antics that are still family legends. Beneath the humor was a brother who was there when it mattered most.

 While football may have been Paul's first love, his true love was his wife of nearly 24 years, Tracey Thomson Schofield. He loved her so much in fact, that he supported her rescue efforts through the Shih Tzu & Furbabies organization by transporting, housing, and finding homes for well over 100 dogs. For the dogs that no one wanted, they took them into their home as forever companions. Those dogs became their favorites.

 Paul was an attorney and managed his own practice in Pennsylvania. He loved practicing law and carried a mental Rolodex. He knew exactly who to call for help with a case, whether it was a divorce case in Pittsburgh, or a work injury in Chester. He moved the practice to a rowhouse in Forty Acres that he transformed and affectionately became known as The Office. Before pursuing a career in law, Paul was a plumber and worked for an environmental service company for several years. This background in the trades was the perfect training ground for the labor of love he poured into renovating The Office. Every part of the rowhouse was touched by his talented hands - from the plumbing to the finish carpentry. It wasn't long before this rowhouse became his law firm by day and neighborhood gathering spot by night. At The Office, family and friends gathered to tell stories, enjoy each other's company, and cheer on Philly sports teams and whoever the Dallas Cowboys were playing.

 Paul never hesitated to help others when they needed it, whether it be assisting a stranded motorist on the side of the road, or a friend or family member that needed help fixing their washing machine, hanging drywall, replacing a hot water heater, or pumping six feet of water out of their basement. He was the president of the Forty Acres Civic Association, and helped his neighbors many, many times. Paul was gifted and could fix ANYTHING, including e-bikes, which he fixed on the dining room table. When he wasn't tinkering, you could find him driving around in his 1963 Corvair, which he loved. Also deserving honorable mention was his 1966 Chevelle, '71 Cadillac El Dorado convertible, and of course his first car, a 1964 Ford Falcon.

 Paul loved all kinds of rock music, from 60's surf music to current European heavy metal to 70's Southern rock. It is surprising how he knew so much about music and equipment yet never played an instrument.

 Paul was predeceased by his mother, Carol; and his maternal grandparents, Charles and Ethel Hane; and his paternal grandparents Edward and Sabina Schofield.

 He is survived by his wife, Tracey; his father, Paul Schofield, Sr.; his brothers, Andrew (Suzette) and Dennis (Beth); his parents-in-law, Charlie and Joyce Zazzera; his sisters-in-law, Lisa Facciolo and Robin (Craig) Tisdel; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends, all of whom will miss him tremendously.

 Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann's Church 2013 Gilpin Ave., Wilm., DE on Monday, August 3 at 10:00 am. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE on Sunday, August 2 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Interment will take place after Mass at Cathedral Cemetery.
