PEGGY L. BOWDLE
(Nee Hilyard)

Of Elsmere, Delaware, passed on peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the age of 79.

She was born on August 5, 1930 in Orlando, Florida, the daughter of Earle and Gladys Hilyard. She moved with her family to Wilmington, Delaware in 1938 and graduated from Henry C. Conrad High School in 1948. Thereafter, she remained a life-long Delawarean, working for the Artesian Water Company, the DuPont Company and ICI Americas, from which she retired in 1993. Peggy also served as a house parent for resident students at the Margaret S. Sterck School for the Deaf in the 1970s. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida and her favorite haunts on the Maryland Eastern Shore.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Howard, in 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Sarro and her husband, John; her granddaughter, Elspeth; her sister, Betty Grant; her brother, David Hilyard; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.
