Peggy Sue Kirkley
Age 72 of New Castle
Passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
Peggy was born on December 10, 1951, to the late Robert and Jeanette (Rogers) Stoneberger. She was a proud lifelong resident of New Castle, DE. Peggy attended William Penn High School. On June 28, 1969, Peggy Sue married the love of her life, Edward "Buck" Kirkley. Together they shared 55 years of love and happiness raising their family.
Peggy worked for the DuPont Chemical Company, retiring after 22 years of dedicated service. She was a social member of St. Antony's Club and St. Gabe's Club of New Castle. Peggy was also a member of St. Peter's the Apostle Church. In 2019 on her 50th wedding anniversary she was blessed in the Catholic faith.
To know Peggy was to love her. She had a warm and kind heart that she shared with everyone she knew. Peggy showed her love best through cooking. She was a talented cook, making almost everything from scratch and you never left her home hungry. Peggy took pride in feeding not only her family but any one in the neighborhood that happened to stop by. When she wasn't cooking, she loved to dance, listen to oldies and classic country, watch Separation Day fireworks, and people watch on the corner of Shawtown. She loved to collect rooster figurines, and her collection was second to none. Peggy and Buck participated in several bowling leagues through the years. She loved to take long drives to nowhere special and fully embracing her hillbilly lifestyle. But most of all Peggy loved her family. Her greatest joy was caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Worthy.
Peggy will be dearly missed by her husband, Edward "Buck" Kirkley, Sr; her sons, Edward "Bucky" Kirkley, Jr, and Vincent Daniel Kirkley, Sr. (Missy); her grandchildren, Amber Worthy, James Worthy, Dustin Kirkley, Dylan Kirkley, Aubree Baize, Lexi Baize, Edward "Eddie" Kirkley III, Vincent Kirkley Jr., Victoria Kirkley, and Catherine Kirkley; and her 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Calhoun (Howard) and Kathy Matheny (Jim); her goddaughter, Melanie Turner-Galbraith; her former daughter-in-law, Angela Kirkley; her grandchildren's significant others as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Accent Hospice for the excellent and compassionate care of Peggy in her final days.
