Obituary

Robert C. Phillips aka Flip, 75, passed away on June 29, 2026 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Flip grew up in New Castle, DE, attended St. Elizabeth's H.S. in the class of '68 where he met many lifelong friends. He also served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. Upon returning home, Flip began his career as a postal carrier. He was also a long-time member of Defiance A.A. where he often served as bartender. Flip had a great love for sports, playing in his younger days and coaching when his kids started playing.

More than anything, Flip was a devoted family man. He loved nothing more than to have his table full with family and friends for a Sunday spaghetti dinner.

Flip is survived by the love of his life, his wife Karen, his son James Robert and his daughters Kate Bunner (Shawn) and Clare DiDiego (Greg). He is also survived by his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Sophia and Luca DiDiego and Asher Bunner. And his many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Louise Phillips, his sister Beverly Cox and his grandson Hayden Bunner.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilm., DE 19805, on Wednesday, July 8 , 2026 from 10:00 am -12:00 noon. The celebration of life service will begin at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place privately.
