Obituary

Age 87, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2015.

Robert was born to the late Thomas Walton and Laura Botsford Walton on May 20, 1928 and was a lifelong Delaware resident. He attended Archmere Academy and was attending the University Delaware when he was drafted in to the United States Army. He was sent to Korea and was captured by the Chinese shortly after arriving. He served the remainder of his military service as a P.O. W. After an honorable discharge from the Walter Reed Hospital, Robert returned to complete his degree at the University of Delaware began his career as a microbiologist. He worked at the Veterans Hospital in Elsmere for many years.

Robert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Middletown, Delaware. He was also an avid golfer and a faithful dog walker for his beloved Jessie, a well know golden retriever in the neighborhood.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eileen, and by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Riley. He is survived by his wife, Martina; his sister, Patricia Longacre; his son, Mark, of Batavia, NY; his daughters, Deborah Harris of Hockessin, and Kimberly Meloro (Angelo) of Hockessin; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert, who was affectionately known as Pop-Pop, will always be remembered for his loving guidance and his many generous gifts of Tastykakes and donuts when he visited his beloved grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 115 Cleaver Farm Road, Middletown, on Thursday, September 10, at 11:00 am. A viewing will take place at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00-11:00 am. Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
