Obituary

Passed away suddenly in her home in Glen Mills, PA on July 23, 2018 at the age of 75.

Sheila was the daughter of the late Thomas S. and Mary Esther (Cleary) Kelly and sister to the late Thomas J. Kelly. Sheila attended Mount Mercy Academy and D'Youville College in Buffalo, New York before moving away to cities on the East Coast. Regardless of distance, she maintained close connections with many women from her days in those places of learning.

She entered the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart in 1965 and, until her departure in 1987, she spent years in teaching and educational administration in the Philadelphia area. Receiving advanced degrees from Temple and Johns Hopkins University provided additional foundation for her professional career. Sheila spent twenty-four years working for the Archdiocese of Baltimore in Human Resource Management. In 1996, she was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice honor by Pope John Paul II in recognition of her many years of distinguished service to the Institutional Church. In 2004, she was hired by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, DC as Deputy Director of the Office of Child and Youth Protection. After retirement from this office, Sheila moved to Wilmington, DE where she continued to work for many dioceses as a consultant on Human Resource issues.

Sheila was a woman of eclectic interests. Among other things, she enjoyed travel, history (especially that of her Irish heritage), politics, the arts and literature, a great dialogue and a good football game. Go Bills!

After her move from Baltimore and until her death, Sheila maintained her connection with a Faith Community from the parish of Corpus Christi in Baltimore, MD. It was a source of spiritual enrichment and great grace -something for which she was most grateful.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Claudia Kelly from Hamburg, NY and many friends across the country. Her friends describe her as having been a woman of wit, wisdom, wonderful in spirit and insight, a comfortable and caring friend. She will be missed by many.

Sheila will be remembered on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the 9am Mass at the Sacred Heart Oratory, 917 Madison St., Wilmington, DE 19801.

A Memorial Service will take place at Corpus Christi Church, 110 W. Lafayette Ave. Baltimore, MD. 21217 on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11 a.m.

Donations in Sheila's name may be sent to the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, 14500 Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19116
