Stephen W. Speakman passed away suddenly on May 19 at home in Delaware City. He was 66 years old. Stevie was a roofer for most of his life. For the past few years he was a school bus driver for First Student.
Stevie enjoyed spending his evenings on the back porch, drinking his Schlitz, and engaging in deep conversation with Gary and Joann Woodall, with whom he lived. We would like to express our gratitude to Gary and Joanne for taking care of Stevie, especially these last few weeks.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tina Edwards, his father, John D. Speakman, Sr., his brothers Dennis (Randy) Speakman and Robert (Bob) Speakman, his sister Christine (Tina) Speakman, and nephew Gregory Speakman.
Stevie will be dearly missed by his son Michael Edwards and grand-daughters Kylie, Adrianna, and Victoria. He is also survived by his mother Betty Speakman (Millman), his brothers John (Jack) Speakman, Jr. (Marie) of Hockessin and Thomas (Tom) Speakman (Billie) of Middletown, his sisters Judith (Judy) Shaw (Mark) of Wilmington, Kathleen Walsh (Pat) of New Castle, and Karen Speakman of Wilmington and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Steve's life at a memorial service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE on Thursday, May 26 at 7:00 PM with visitation at 6:00 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
