Theodore J. Doyle, Sr.

Age 84 of Rehoboth Beach

Passed away with his family by his side on March 12, 2025.

Ted was born to the late Edward and Helen (McCarthy) Doyle. He grew up in Elsmere and was a proud 1958 graduate of Salesianum School. After graduation Ted enlisted in the Untied State Marine Corps, faithfully serving his country for four years.

Ted dedicated his life to the Fire Service. He began as a volunteer junior member at Elsmere Fire Co at the age of 15. He was a life member of Elsmere Fire Company, Five Points Fire Company, and Rehoboth Fire Company. Ted served in leadership roles at all his companies as well as serving in the President of IAFC. He was hired by Wilmington Fire Department in 1963 And retired as a Battalion Chief after 30 years of service in 1993. His selfless and unrelenting nature made him the ideal firefighter and leader.

In his free time Ted volunteered as a member of the Dover Fire Rescue Safety Team as well as a softball umpire. In retirement he and his wife Eileen moved to Sussex County where he enjoyed golfing and spending time with family at the beach.
In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Doyle, and daughter, Denise Kent.

Ted will be dearly missed by his wife of 42 years, Eileen; his children, Felecia Doyle, Teddy Doyle (Cindy), Chris Doyle (Cathy), Patrick Doyle, and Michael Doyle; his 13 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his first wife, Amelia Doyle, and a large loving extended family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 19 at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi R.C. Church, 905 New Rd., Elsmere, DE 19805. A viewing will be at Elsmere Fire Hall, 1107 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere, DE, on Tuesday, March 18 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. Burial will follow mass at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Ted's name to Delaware Hospice.
