Theresa S. (Freebery) Hopkins
In the comfort of her home after being cared for by her loving family, Theresa S. (Freebery) Hopkins of New Castle, DE, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2011. Born April 26, 1929, Theresa was a life long resident of Olde New Castle and a faithful parishioner of St. Peter The Apostle Parish.
After graduating from St. Peter High School, she worked for McLauren & VanBrundt law firm until her marriage to Joseph E. Freebery on May 27, 1950. Raising eight children, Theresa was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. Her greatest pleasure was her family, and she was very involved in her children's and grandchildren's activities. She also held leadership positions for many church and community organizations. Later in life, she was employed by Wilmington Trust, The Board of Water & Light, and St. Peter School Latchkey program.
Theresa lived life to the fullest, was well traveled and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and dancing. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her friends and family at the beaches of Fenwick Island and Ocean City, Maryland.
Theresa was the daughter of Edward D. and Jane M. Sparks. She was preceded in death by her husbands Joseph E. Freebery and Harry H. Hopkins. She will be greatly missed and forever cherished by her family, son Joseph E. Freebery, Jr. (Doris), Thomas C. Freebery (Kathleen), Susan F. Clayton (Tom), David J. Freebery, Sr. (Kelley), Theresa F. Collurafici (Anthony), Paul J. Freebery, Sr. (Debbie), Joanne F. Thawley (Jay), Joyce C. Simpson (Steve). She will be fondly remembered by her 21 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and by her twin brother, Paul Sparks, and three sisters, Jane Ann Perkins, Dolores Stradley and Helena Naydock.
A Mass of Resurrection to celebrate Theresa's life will be held at St. Peter the Apostle
Church in New Castle on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 10:00 am with interment to follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Monday, June 13, from 5:00-8:00 pm at St. Peter Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to St. Peter the Apostle Church, 521 Harmony St., New Castle, DE 19720.
