Age 79, died Friday, April 17, 2009 peacefully surrounded by his family at Heartland Hospice.
Tom was born and raised in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, served his country loyally during the Korean War. Tom worked for the Norfolk & Western Railroad after being honorably discharged. Tom and Mary Ann moved to Delaware in 1959 and he worked for the Chrysler Assembly in Newark. Tom left Chrysler and enrolled in Local Barber School. After his certification in 1962 he become the owner of the Millcreek Barber Shop and operated there until he gave up the ownership in the late 1980's. Tom continued to work at the "First Chair" at Millcreek until November of last year.
Tom was a dedicated member of the Immanuel Church on Pennsylvania Ave. in Wilmington and served on the finance committee for over 45 years.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was truly a people person as a reflection by the loyalty his friends and customers showed to him.
Tom was the son of the late Thomas P. and Sallie (Tabor) Alley, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Shelton) Alley; his daughter, Lori Lynn (Alley) Connolly and her husband Timothy James; his son, Thomas Mark Alley; and his grandson, T.J. Connolly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service at Immanuel Church, Pennsylvania Ave. & Greenhill Ave., Wilmington on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Wed. evening April 22nd from 6 to 8 p.m. Entombment in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington. Friends may also visit with the family Thurs. morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
