Obituary

Thomas. J. Fagan, Sr.

Thomas J. Fagan, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, relative, and friend to so many, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware on August 27, 1919, son of the late James and Jane Fagan. He was the second of four children, and the only son, surrounded by three proud and loving sisters. He was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Trembly. Two sisters, Mary Cloud and Eleanor Doherty, both of Wilmington, survive him.

Tom grew up in on DuPont Road and graduated from A.I. DuPont High School. He proudly served his country during World War II in the South Pacific and then started a successful career as a hardwood flooring contractor. Thereafter, Tom met and married his beloved wife of 58 years, Theresa (Giannone) Fagan. Tom and Theresa shared great happiness and dedicated their lives to raising their three children, Zina, Tom Jr., and Rich. Tom and Theresa became mainstays at St. Thomas R. C. Church and many a pastor benefited from Tom's willingness to help on the upkeep of the church, school, and gym. Tom was a big sports fan, and had a special affinity for the Phillies. Tom enjoyed golfing, always managing to get around the course in quick fashion.

Tom's children will always remember him as an engaged and supportive father who taught by example, and quietly motivated and encouraged each to be his or her own person.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa L. (Giannone) Fagan, daughter, Zina M. (Fagan) Walsh and her husband, James; son, Thomas J. Fagan, Jr. and his wife, Roseanne, and son, Richard J. Fagan and his wife Cynthia. Further, Tom leaves 6 grandchildren to cherish his memory: Katherine (Walsh) Berg and her husband Brian, Philip Walsh, Timothy Fagan, Molly Fagan, Adam Fagan, and Erica Fagan. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas R.C. Church, 301 N. Bancroft Pkwy., Wilmington, on Tuesday, October 26th at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday morning. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, Newark.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom's memory may be made to either St. Thomas R.C. Church, 301 N. Bancroft Pkwy., Wilmington, DE 19805, or Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810.
