Umberto "Bert" Flocco

Age 59 of Wilmington

Passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 4:07 am, despite attempts by several first responders to revive him via CPR and other measures, he did not survive.

Bert has been on disability since 2022 due to serious multiple injuries after being hit by a car while walking home from work. Thanks to Christiana Care Trauma Team, he was able to return home five weeks later after six surgeries and a period of rehabilitation.

Bert graduated from Wilmington High School in 1984 and enrolled in Delaware Technical Community College.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Angelo in 2002; his grandfather, John Simpson, Sr. in 2019; and his father, Umberto, Sr. in 2021.

Bert will be dearly missed by his mother, Mary Lou; his daughter, Sara Flocco and her mother, Patricia Bromwell; his uncle, Jack Simpson Jr. and his wife, Linda; as well as several cousins, extended relatives, and many boyhood friends he grew up with while living in Elsmere.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life service for Bert on Monday, Jul 6, 2026 at 12:00pm at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 am -12:00 pm. Interment will take place at Cathedral Cemetery.
