Valerie Calvarese (Julius)
February 10, 1957 - December 28, 2024
Valerie Calvarese (Julius), age 67, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Born February 10, 1957, Valerie was raised in New Castle, DE and graduated from William Penn High School in 1975. After high school, she began her 40 year career as an administrative and executive assistant where she made many lifelong friends. Her pride and purpose was raising her four children and being involved in everything they did. She spent many years volunteering for school and church programs as a CYO administrator, altar server program coordinator, and bartender/caterer. After raising her children and retiring, she continued her service to St. Peter's Church, joining the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality and volunteering for Eucharistic Adoration. Her faith and service were a prominent part of her life.
Val loved spending her time cooking and gardening. She loved cooking her Sunday sauce and finding new recipes to try. She was proud of her garden, especially the basil and tomatoes she would give away to family and friends. She loved going to Ocean City, Maryland to relax by the water. She was also an avid Phillies fan, watching every game and promising to never watch them again after a tough loss (she never kept that promise). Most of all, Val loved spending time with and spoiling her dog, Auggie.
Valerie is survived by her children, Andrew, Maria (Brian), Joe (Sade), and Dominic; grandchildren, Ahmad, Naomi, Eva, and Cora; sister Jackie Metz Frederick (Eric); cousin Tina Kaczmarczyk (Charles, and sons John and David); niece Jessie and nephews Paul and Michael; and her beloved dog, Auggie. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul & Mary Julius, and her favorite uncle, John Manetti.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church (12 Winder Rd, New Castle, DE 19720). A Viewing will be at the church at 10:00 AM. Burial will be held in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Charities, 2601 W 4th Street, Wilmington, DE 19805.
