Vera H. Smith

Age 91 of Bear

Passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025.

Vera was born in Jefferson, North Carolina, to the late Louis and Josephine (Phipps) Hamm. When she was a child, Vera moved with her family to Lancaster. As a young women Vera she was active in her church choir which is where she met the love of her life, Jermone Smith. They were married in 1951 and spent 73 loving years together until Jerry's passing in 2024.

Vera was a dental assistant for many years under Dr. Friz which later became the Dental Associates of Delaware.

Throughout her life Vera was a crafter. She was a talented seamstress and loved exploring craft shows with her friends. She loved to travel and was always up for a rousing game of the card game 65. Vera was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that will be deeply missed.

Vera leaves behind her daughter, Debbie Baker (Butch); her son, Don Smith (Pam); her grandchildren, Sean Baker, of North Carolina, Ryan Baker of California, and Marie Smith (David) of Elsmere; and her great-grandchildren.

All services be held privately. The burial will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Vera's name to a charity of your choosing.
