Walter Charles (Gran) Wilson passed away peacefully after a long illness in Wilmington, DE on Friday, May 8, 2026. Born in Wilmington on December 26, 1937, he was the son of the late Otto and Helen (Moeller) Wilson.
Walter was married to the late Sarah (Carson) Wilson for 57 years. He is survived by his daughters, Leigh Perillo (Billy) of Wilmington, Lynn Wilson of Lewes and his son, Charles Wilson (Kim) of Hockessin. He was predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth Wagner. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He served in the United States Army and retired from AstraZeneca of Delaware. He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Orange Institution of the United States and their Supreme Grand Secretary for over 40 years.
Walter was a devoted family man and spent extensive time with and enjoyed taking care of others, especially his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a joy of travel (i.e. Florida, San Francisco and the beach), reading extensively (especially political biographies), and watching his favorite gameshow, Jeopardy.
The family would like to express gratitude for the compassionate care that Walter received at Kentmere Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing facility, especially from Patrice, Kamille, K. and Alicia.
There will be a viewing from 10:00 - 11:30 am at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home in Elsmere followed by a short service at 11:30 am on May 19. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery in Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
