Walter E. (Wally) Colona
Age 77, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Christiana Hospital.
Walter worked for the DuPont Company for over 30 years. He also achieved the rank of Major in the Army National Guard where he served his country for 20 years. He was a member of Oriental Lodge #12 in Wilmington. Walter enjoyed golf, cooking, playing the organ and playing billards.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Anna Colona, and twin-sister, Anna V. Colona. He is survived by his wife, Laura Colona; his daughter, Deborah Lang and her husband Edward; brother, William Colona Jr.; 3 grandchildren, Christina McCarthy-Ortiz and her husband Santy, Sarah and Joshua Lang; 3 stepsons, Gary Fender and his wife Terry, Charlie Fender and his wife Mary, Steven Fender and his wife Tonya; and he was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his great-granddaughter, Lila Elizabeth.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service at Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, Dupont Pkwy., New Castle, Saturday, May 2nd at 11 a.m. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Friday evening, May 1st from 6 to 8 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday morning at Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel. Interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
