Obituary

Walter R. Loncki, Jr.
Age 82 of New Castle

Passed away at home on December 12, 2025.

To know Walt was to know dedication. Dedication to community, to hard work, and most of all to family. These were the pillars that shaped Walt's life.

Walt was born on January 21, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Walter R. and Anastasia (Walsh) Loncki. He moved to New Castle with his family at the age of 13 and fully embraced everything the City of New Castle had to offer. He was a proud graduate of St. Peter the Apostle Grade School and High School. Walt spent his life at St. Peter's. Many of his life milestones were spent there including falling in love with his soulmate, Chrissy Cannon, at Ring Mass in 1959. Walt donated his free time to the betterment of the church community. He served many years on Parish Council as well as a Eucharist Minister. Walt was always there to answer the call whenever the building was in need of repair. He was also an active member of the St. Anthony's Club, where he enjoyed playing bocce and socializing with new and old friends.

Walt had many jobs throughout his life, first being at the Collins Park Gulf. He later began his career at Sears and Roebuck in 1962 and quickly ascended to the supervisory level. But, at the age of 48, he found his true passion for construction and remodeling. He left Sears to start his own business. He was so kind and trustworthy that the requests never stopped coming. Walt helped so many and he truly believed that every client became a friend. Walt was in such demand that full retirement was never really an option for him.

In his downtime he enjoyed sudokus and recently became a jigsaw puzzle expert. He loved to work on cars and always had something to fix or tinker with. He cheered on the Philles and Eagles every season. But more than anything Walt loved his family. His favorite pass time was just being together. His greatest accomplishment was being a doting husband, a father, and Poppy.

In addition to his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his siblhiings, Joseph Loncki and Marie Walker; his son, Stephen J. Loncki; and his granddaughter, St. Airman Elizabeth Loncki.

Walt will be dearly missed by wife of 65 years, Christine Cannon Loncki; his daughters, Tina (Victor) and Jennifer( Bill); his sons, Scott (Sara) and Jamie (Cheryl); his grandchildren, Jessica, Violet, Bryan, Scott, Leah, Margaret, Matty, and Katie; and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Chicosky, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 521 Harmony St. New Castle, DE, on Friday, Dec 19 at 11:00 am. Friends may call at the church on Thursday, Dec 18 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made in Walt's name to St. Peter the Apostle R.C Church or the Helen Graham Cancer Center.
