Butch Freebery, age 84 of New Castle passed away on August 16, 2021, after a short illness.

Butch joins his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Joan Freebery, who passed in 2017. As the last surviving sibling he also finally joins his brothers and sisters.

Butch worked for 40 years at Delmarva Power as a line and trouble man. He was instrumental in the leadership of Local 1238 of the IBEW where he helped shape benefits that members still enjoy today.

Butch was a beloved family man and patriarch. Being the best Pop Pop a grandchild could have, he never missed a sporting event, concert, or dance recital. He was always there with a proud smile, a jug of water, or a $20 bill.

Butch is survived by his children, Huck Freebery, Ann Johnson (Jack), Kevin Freebery (Denise); and his loving grandchildren, Matt Johnson (Amanda), Josh Johnson, Meghan Freebery, Abby Freebery; and great grandchild, Sadie Johnson. Butch is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
