Obituary

William E. Layer
Age 81 of New Castle
Passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024
Bill was born and raised in Southern New Jersey. He joined the United States Army after graduation and faithfully served his country.
Once Bill returned home, he settled in Delaware. Bill went to work for Ametek Corporation retiring after 34 years of dedicated service. He had an amazing ability to fix anything and greatly enjoyed working as a mechanic both professionally and personally. In his down time, Bill also volunteered to help teach handicapped children some of the skills he refined over the years.
Bill lived a full life with a big heart. Over the years Bill rescued over 30 cats and provided them with warm and loving home. He loved simple things like fishing, cooking, and reading. He also enjoyed playing cards, yelling the answers to Jeopardy, and cheering on his Eagles and Philles. But most of all Bill treasured the time spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Dorothy Layer, and his brother Russell Layer.
Bill will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years, Dianne Hawn Layer; his daughters, Tammy Layer and Carol Morine (Eric); his grandchildren, Christina Foster, Jamie Moseley and Jared Moseley; and great grandson, Colin Fernandez. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, John Hawn; sister-in-law, Barbara Cunningham; nieces, Christine Dupper (Charlie) and Julie Layer; and his beloved furry friends.
All services for Bill will be held privately.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Delaware Hospice for the kind and compassionate care of Bill during his final days.
