William J. Myers Sr., age 97, passed away at home on May 22, 2024 surrounded by his three sons. He has been reunited with his wife, Patricia (Patsy) Myers.
Born January 6, 1927, Bill was the second youngest of six children born to the late Edward Myers and Catherine Brennan. In his earlier years, he served proudly in the United States Army during World War II. Afterwards, Bill worked a variety of jobs for companies such as ARA Vending, General Motors, and Lithographic Arts, and he even managed his own laundry business. Bill eventually founded Bill Myers and Son Home Improvements with his oldest son William (Bill) Jr. He was a dedicated craftsman who never missed a day on the job and worked well into his nineties.
Bill was the proud father of three sons—Bill, Rob, and Tom—whom he shared with his first wife Audrey Colton. He loved his sons deeply and instilled in them the values of integrity and hard work. Bill eventually married the love of his life, Patsy, in 1977. They were together for 50 years until her death in 2023. Bill and Patsy enjoyed hosting family and friends at their home on Faulkland Road as well as at their vacation home in Rehoboth. It was during their summers at the beach that the couple discovered karaoke, which became a shared passion between them.
Known for his mellow baritone voice, Bill was a star of the local karaoke scene. He also had a prolific music career as a rhythm guitarist backing numerous bands in the Delaware Valley. His bandmates referred to him as "Ace," a nickname that stuck with him through the years. Bill and his siblings also performed as a family band at parties and charity events. Music was Bill's greatest passion in life.
Later in life, Bill became a grandfather to nine grandchildren and "Old Pop-Pop" to six great-grandchildren. He always greeted his grandchildren with a joke or a crazy story from his youth. His great-grandchildren loved his silly faces. Bill took immense pride in all of their accomplishments.
He lived a life rooted deeply in the Catholic faith. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's in Wilmington. He and Patsy were honored by the Diocese of Wilmington in 2018 for 50 years of service.
Bill is survived by his sons William J. Myers Jr., Robert L. Myers and Thomas E. Myers (Laurie); his grandchildren Michael Wright (Julie), Christina Buchanan, Kerri Mangini (Michael), Matthew Myers, Jeffrey Myers (Kelly), Lauren Myers, Caitlin Myers, Jessica Myers (Tyler) and Justin Bliss; and his great-grandchildren Jackson and Max Buchanan, Grace and Emma Mangini, and Emory Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Myers; his parents Edward and Catherine Myers; his siblings Marie Treml, Edward Myers, John Myers, Ann Abbott, Jean Haught; his first wife Audrey Colton; his grandson-in-law Brandon Buchanan; and his great-granddaughter Riley Buchanan.
Bill—the leader of the band—has taken his final bow on this earth, but his song lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. May his song find us when we need it most.
