Obituary

Winifred Catherine "Mom Dukes" Sammons, 72, of Wilmington DE, went to heaven on Wednesday May 19, 2021.

Winnie was born at home in New Castle, Delaware on October 23, 1949 to the late Paul Miller and May Nelson. She was married to the love of her life, Frank Sammons Sr, for 53 years. She was a graduate of De La Warr High School.

Winnie was a lifelong resident of Delaware, spending her final days in Richardson Park. She was a true believer in Love and Compassion and would always say "Today Is A Day of Dreams". She lifted up the youth teaching at the Absalom Jones Head Start preschool program and managed the Conrad Apache cheerleading program in her spare time. She along with her husband Frank devoted the majority of their free time to various sports and recreational activities in the Richardson Park neighborhood. She spent 32 years with MBNA, now Bank of America and after her retirement dedicated her time to the Richardson Park Community Action Program assisting those in need with clothing, food and financial assistance. Her life was not fulfilled unless she was helping someone.

In addition to her parents, Winnie was preceded in death by her sisters, Kelly Leithren (David) and Roberta Harrington (William) and brother John "Jay" Faulkner. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Frank Sammons Sr, children, Ted Sammons, (Chrissy) Bruce Sammons, Wendy Walls, and Frank Sammons Jr, (Amanda). Grandchildren, Michael Linton, Gabriel Linton, Brett Sammons, Brady Sammons, Frankie Sammons, Forrie Sammons, Anthony Walls, her brother Boyd Armstrong (Cindy) and sister Sandra Skelley (David) and many nieces and nephews.
