Dorothy M. Milewski
nee Anderson

On August 7, 2018 the world lost a very beloved person. Dorothy M. Milewski, 88, passed away peacefully at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Hospital. Her family had maintained a constant vigil by her side over the past three weeks. Born and raised in Wilmington, DE, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Naaman A. and Jennie D. Anderson.
She attended Wilmington High School and pursued courses in her 70s at U of D Academy of Lifelong Learning. A voracious reader, she was a frequent visitor at the Elsmere Library and Barnes and Noble. Also, there wasn’t a crossword puzzle she didn’t love.
Dot had the rare quality of connecting immediately with everyone she met. She welcomed people easily into her heart and found the good in everyone. She will always be remembered for her style, elegance and grace.
As a loving and devoted homemaker, one of her greatest joys was gathering the family for Sunday dinners.
Monthly luncheons with her “club” and neighborhood friends were occasions that she always looked forward to. Even after moving from Cleland Heights, she maintained a close relationship with each and every one of them.
An amazingly talented and creative person, friends and relatives alike marveled at her accomplished self-taught sewing ability and fine-stitching needlepoint and embroidery.
Dorothy was preceded in death by the love of her life, Jesse “Chink” Milewski in 2002. They were happily married for 54 years and had four children. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward Anderson.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Leonarski and her husband, Tom, Cindy Stuller and her husband, Ken; her sons, Jay Milewski and his wife, Trish, and Gregg Milewski and his fiancé, Jennifer. Mom-Mom Dot was most proud of the ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and her special bond with each, Heather Winward and her husband, Dave, Thomas Leonarski, Kelyanne Hayes and her husband, Kip, Brian Milewski and his wife, Becky, Jennifer Brady and her fiancé, Greg, Jordan Milewski and his wife, Francine, Alyssa Allen and her husband, Conor, Jessica Brady, Jay Milewski, and Lee Milewski and his wife, Cat. She is great-grandmother to Jordan, Emma, and Justin Winward, Krosby Milewski, Collins Hayes, and Quinn and Harper Milewski.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Francis Fourth Floor, especially Samantha, and the staff at Compassionate Care Hospice for the warm and personal attention they provided.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 4:00-6:00 pm at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 809 S Broom St, Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery.
