Mary (Manetti) Julius, age 88 passed away peacefully in her home on September 21, 2018.

She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Metz Frederick (Eric) and Valerie Calvarese; grandchildren, Andrew, Jessie (Dermot), Maria (Brian), Paul (Stephanie), Joe (fiancee, Sade), Michael, and Dominic; and great-grandchildren, Naomi, Caitlin, and Austin; her beloved brother, John Manetti; loving niece, Tina Kaczmarczyk (Charles, and sons John and David); and her long-time best friend, Dorothy Octavio. She is preceded in death by Paul Julius, her loving husband of 55 years; parents, Valeriano and Antoinetta Manetti; and brothers, Vince, Joe, Dominick, and Anthony.

Mary was born on September 1st, 1930. She was raised in her home on Clayton St. in the “Shawtown” neighborhood of New Castle, DE. She met her future husband, Paul, on a blind date in the early 1950s. The couple quickly fell in love, writing frequent letters to one another while Paul was serving in the US Army. After he was honorably discharged, he returned home, where the couple wed in 1952. Mary's pride and purpose was rooted in service to others and creating memories with her family and friends. She and Paul were known to open their home and offer support to loved ones and strangers alike. She also hosted and cooked for many years for various holidays and special family occasions. Mary was known for her exceptional Italian cooking; from homemade spaghetti and meatballs to ricotta cookies and rum cake, she spent hours in the kitchen to bring comfort and joy to those she loved.

Mary's family would like to thank her private caregivers, with special gratitude to caregiver and friend, Cecilia Tawiah. Thank you also to Mimi Antwi, Vida Debrah, Dr. Liu, nurse Becca, Dawn Bevis, and Dee Medley; Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care; and the Delaware Division of Aging.
