Mary L. (Santa) Roberts age 90, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018.
Mary was born in Wilmington. She was the daughter of Arpad (Al) and Mary (Toth) Santa, and the sister of Martin Santa. She was baptized a Catholic Christian on February 12, 1928 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, whose school she graduated from in 1941.
When her studies at Wilmington High School and Beacom College were completed, she entered the business world for a few years, then she and George C. Roberts were joined in marriage at Christ Our King Church. From that union of 27 years, four children were born, whom they loved dearly, and who, along with their spouses and their children, survive her: Michael of Bear, Patricia and her husband, Gordon Gawronski of Newark, John and his wife, Deborah, of Newark, and George, Jr., and his wife, Ann Marie, of Landenberg, PA; and six grandchildren: Jen Mensinger, Liz Mensinger Ashton, Jim Mensinger, III, Michael Roberts, Jr., John Roberts, Jr., George Martin Roberts; two grandchildren-in-law: Liz Jannaman and Chris Jannaman; four great-grandchildren, Eric, Matthew, Caitlin, and Alexis.
When her children were grown, Mary re-entered the business world working in the offices of the Town of Elsmere Police Department/Tax Department for 8 years, and then at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church office for 12 years, retiring from there in 1996.
Cooking large dinners for her family and seeing the love they had for each other was the source of much happiness for Mary. Throughout the years, she found great joy in being involved in church ministries. She had great love for God, His Holy Catholic Church, her family, her many cousins and friends and all of God’s creation.
Since April 1, 1979, Mary has been a Professed Member of the Secular Franciscan Order (formerly known as the Third Order of St. Francis).
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, the father of her children, George Roberts, Sr., and her beloved granddaughter, Tracy Ann.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Corpus Christi R.C. Church, 905 New Road, Elsmere on Monday, August 13, at 11:00 am. Family will greet friends at the Church on Monday morning from 10:00-11:00 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that in Mary’s memory you consider a contribution to Corpus Christi Church, 905 New Road, Wilmington, DE 19805.
