Bob Smith, a longtime resident of New Castle, Bear and Middletown passed away after a long illness on November 12, 2018.
Bob was born on March 2, 1944, in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. He graduated from DeLaWarr High School in 1962 and received his apprenticeship from Brown VoTech as a machinist shortly thereafter. He enlisted in the Navy in 1964 and served as a Machinist Mate, and in 1968 received an honorable discharge. He retired from DuPont Experimental Station in 2004 after 26+ years of service. He was a perfectionist who took pride in all that he did. You could always depend on Bob to get the job done right!
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Irene and Dean; his brother, Dean; uncle and aunt, Bill and Lenore; and his grandparents, Paul and Ethyl. He was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Walter, Philip, Betty, and Jimmy.
He was a great father to his two children, Roberta (Schofield) and his son, James, who he dearly loved. He was so very proud of them. He was a great father-in-law to Mike, of whom he thought of as another son. He has three wonderful grandchildren and enjoyed every minute spent with them. They are Krysten (Its), Catherine (Kins) and Emily (Palomino). He was a devoted husband to Rita for 48 years. I will always miss him; we had a wonderful relationship and a great life.
He also had a wonderful relationship with the Pullan family. He loved and enjoyed their company, especially when we had our family get togethers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing for Bob on Monday, November 19 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Krienen Funeral Home 101 West 6th St., New Castle, DE 19720. Interment will be on Tuesday, November 20 at 11:00 am in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE
