Obituary for Alfred Holliday

Alfred Holliday

Age 79 of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Sun., Nov. 14, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Summit Hill, PA, Al was the son of the late Alfred J. and Viola (Brownmiller) Holliday.

Al graduated from Summit Hill High School in 1949, where he excelled at football and track. In honor of his accomplishments, in 2005 he was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame of Carbon County Pennsylvania.

Alfred served honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard and is a Veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Imperial Chemical Industries, (ICI Americas) after 41 years of service, where he worked as an industrial pipefitter.

He was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed attending University of Delaware, and Saint Elizabeth High School athletic events. He was also a dedicated supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s sports and extra-curricular activities.

He is survived by Jane, his wife of 56 years; his children, Beth Young, and her husband, Arthur, of Newark, DE, Deborah Taber, and her husband, David, of Ottsville, PA, Alfred W. Holliday and his wife, Marie, of Newark, DE, and Brian Holliday and his wife, Gemma, of San Jose, CA, his grandchildren Arthur Young III, Benjamin Young, Andrew Young, Samuel Young, Eric Taber, Hanna Taber, Andrew Taber, Meghan Holliday, Kristen Holliday, A.J. Holliday and Zairah Cuaresma. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Aaron, Robert, and William Holliday.

A viewing will be held on Thurs., Nov. 18 at 11:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Lancaster Ave. and Bancroft Pkwy, Wilmington, DE. Burial will take place at the Delaware Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE, on Fri., Nov. 19, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Alfred’s memory to Zion Lutheran Church,
2101 Lancaster Ave., Wilm., DE 19805.
