Obituary for Cecilia R. McGovern
Cecilia “Ceil” R. (Gold) McGovern
Age 93, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2011, surrounded by her family.
Born April 21, 1917 in Wilmington, DE, Ceil was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Hannah (Schwartz) Gold. She retired from the Wilmington Medical Center where she worked in the Dietary Division at the Wilmington General Hospital. She previously worked in the Bayard School Cafeteria and W. T. Grant Store in Wilmington, DE. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church. She was an avid QVC shopper and enjoyed playing Michigan Rummy and dominos with her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. McGovern (1991), to whom she was married for over 50 years. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph Gold, Alice Kolasinski, John Mannion, Joseph Mannion, Regina Shaw, Robert Gold, Francis Gold, and William Gold; and two sons-in-law, Bill Valentine and Billy Reiter.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Joan Valentine, Marge Reiter, and Patricia and son-in-law Ed Lesniczak; a son, George and daughter-in-law Mary Ann McGovern; eight grandchildren (and spouses) Laureen, Marsha (Junior), Eddie Jr. (Melissa), Jason (Kelly), Corey (Cassandra), Taryn (Bud), Jeremy, and Kelly; and eight great-grandchildren, Anthony, Dominic, Nathaniel, Matthew, Cameron, Jayden, Anna, and Breanna.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Oak & Clayton Sts., Wilmington on Wednesday, February 23rd at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Tuesday evening, February 22nd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment in All Saints Cemetery.
