Obituary for Cornelius P "Connie" Lehane

Cornelius “Connie” Patrick Lehane passed away on April 10th, 2018 at the age of 88 surrounded by the love of his entire family.
Connie was a life-long resident of Wilmington who proudly grew up in the 40 Acres neighborhood. He graduated from Salesianum after which he saw the world as a Serviceman in the US Navy for 4 years. Upon returning home, Connie married his best friend and the love of his life, Susan Darden Lehane. He studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Delaware and worked diligently as a Design Engineering Draftsman at Hercules for 26 years.
Connie loved solving puzzles, reading about history, tending to his garden (after 8 AM of course) and, above all, spending time with his family. He took his role as “The Pop-Pop” very seriously, and faithfully served as a mentor and friend to all who needed him. He was a principle member of the Grand Counsel and will be dearly missed at the Council’s Monday morning and Friday afternoon meetings.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius Lehane and Catherine McFadden Lehane; his sister, Joan Leahy; daughter, Susan Kegelman; son, Cornelius Lehane; and grandson, Jamie Glunt.
Connie is survived by his wife, “Sweet Baby” Susan Darden Lehane; his children, Karen Calahan (Hugh), Ellen Bleacher (Bob), Joan Glunt (Keith), Nancy Furlong (Tom); his 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be held on Monday, April 16th at 11:00 am at St. Matthew’s Church, 1013 East Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804. Family and friends are invited to visit starting at 9:30 AM. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to The Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark Delaware 19713.
