Obituary for Daniel Konstanty "Danny" Hazewski

Daniel Konstanty Hazewski

Daniel K. Hazewski, “Danny”, age 95, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle passed away on February 28, 2018 at the home of his youngest daughter from dementia.

Danny was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Helen, who died in 2015. He is survived by his children, Thomas Sinex, Dan Hazewski (Jan), Donald Sinex, Joanne Scullion (Bill), Donnie Hazewski (Carole), and Linda Macleary (Don); 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Danny was born on September 21, 1922 in Wilmington to Anna and Konstanty Hazewski. He was the youngest of 10 siblings.

Following in the footsteps of brothers Eddie and Joe, he excelled at all sports from a young age into adulthood, driven by his competitive spirit and for the love of the games. After graduation from Wilmington High in 1940, Danny entered the Army serving in Reconnaissance and Surveillance, travelling throughout Europe. The wartime stories he shared are awe-inspiring and too numerous to mention. He returned to Wilmington, raised a family, and worked for CL Story and Modern Press until he retired.

From late 40’s- 50’s, Danny’s role as Catcher for Frankies Steak House’s (semi pro fast pitch softball) team help earned 5 straight state championships, while playing with and against well-known local sports legends. He also played basketball in the Industrial League and football for Defiance.

Danny’s loyalty to UD football was huge. As yearly season ticket holders, he and Helen hosted tailgates not to be missed. They took to the road for away games with the Stahl Post and garnered many good times. Danny was an usher at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church. He also served as president of the Canby Park Civic Association, where he resided for 56 years. He will always be remembered as the “life of the party” with his fun spirited humor and laughter.

The family gives special thanks to Renetta Spiess for help with Danny’s care during his long illness and Season’s Hospice.
