Obituary for Daniel A "Danny" Sullivan Jr.

Daniel A "Danny" Sullivan Jr.
The Sullivan Family invites you to share in their grief over the sudden loss of Daniel A. Sullivan, Jr., patriarch of the Sullivan family and 35-year Veteran of the Wilmington Police Department. Danny passed away on June 28, 2018, leaving behind his beloved wife of 28 years, Shelley, and his 16-year old twins, Danny, and Bridget.

A graduate of St. Ann’s School (1972) and Salesianum (1976), Danny was the eldest brother of five siblings and followed in his own father’s footsteps, becoming a 35-year veteran and Senior Master Corporal of the Wilmington Police Department and a respected Member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Danny was also a skilled outdoorsman and darts player, and an active Member of the Defiance Athletic Association.

Despite the many communities he was proud to be a part of, however, Danny’s greatest pride and greatest title was that of ‘Dad’ to his twins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Monica Sullivan; and his sister Ita.

Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Shelley; his son, Danny and his daughter, Bridget. He is also survived by his brother, Liam (Andrea); sisters, Monica and Siobhan; and several adoring nieces and nephews.

A public viewing will be held on Thursday, July 5, from 5:00-8:00pm at the Chapel at Salesianum, 1801 N. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19802. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 6, at 10:00am at St. Ann’s Church, 2013 Gilpin Ave., Wilmington, DE 19806; Burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the Sullivan family warmly encourages donations made to ‘The Danny Sullivan Legacy Fund,’ available through GoFundMe.
