Obituary for Geraldine "Jay" McDermott
Geraldine “Jay” McDermott
Age 75, of Wilmington, DE, passed away suddenly at Christiana Hospital on Friday evening, February 4, 2011.
Jay was a New Years baby born in 1936 to Joseph and Josephine Garbatowski.
She recently retired after a long career in medical billing from Brandywine Imaging.
Jay was the MVP of all moms as she devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. Her door and heart were always open to everyone, friends, and family alike, and she will be remembered for her selfless ways. She especially enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, reading, and vacationing at the beach.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Francis J. McDermott. She is also survived by her 8 loving children; Lisa Shelley and her husband John, Carla Goewert and her husband Brad, Daniel McDermott and his wife Joanie, Kevin McDermott and Tara Bouldin, Paula Senghachanh and her husband Champ, Melissa McDermott, Christina McDermott, and Mark McDermott and his wife Hilda; 15 grandchildren, Samantha and Taylor Shelley, Austin, Chandler, Briana and Lance Goewert, Colin, Claire and Christy McDermott, Matthew, Brandon, and LJ Sengphachanh, Rebecca McDermott, Brian and Scott McDermott; sister, Vivian Duffy; brother, Charles Britton; and sister, Joanne Foell. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph “Sonny” Garbatowski.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew R. C. Church, Woodcrest, on Friday, February 11th at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Thursday evening, February 10th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment in Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Make A Wish Foundation, 3519 Silverside Rd., Ridgely Building, Suite 100, Wilmington, DE 19810.
