Gladys was a long-time resident of Delaware. She departed this life at the age 83 on Sunday, April 22, 2018 in Wilmington, DE. with her three sons and family by her side. She quietly left this world and joined her savior Jesus Christ.

She was born on December 26, 1934 in Coamo Puerto Rico. Gladys and her husband came to the US Mainland in 1956 and were one of the first Hispanic families in Wilmington. They were both long time parishioners of St. Paul’s Church.

Her priority and joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren, Maribel, Miguel, Jose Jr. (Joey), Lillian, Laurie, Doris, Charlene, Doris, Johnny, and the late Benito (Benny) and William Perez. She loved knitting and crocheting, always making blankets and decorative items for family and friends. Gladys also enjoyed watching the news every day to stay on top of current events followed by “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune”. She also cooking especially her favorite dishes, lobster and crabs.

Gladys was affectionately known to her family as “Mama”. She was the matriarch and the “rock” of the family, loved by everyone. She and her husband opened their doors to everyone in the community. She was the Mother and the God parents and close friend to many and baby-sat over twenty-five kids touching and inspiring many. In addition, Gladys and her husband Benny took many families into their home when they came to the States looking to start a new life. Gladys was loved, and respected, and she will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Benito Correa, whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her sons, Juan, Jose, and Pedro along with eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Obdulia Cardona.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Service on Thursday, April 26 at 11:00 AM at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19805. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery following the Service.
