Obituary for Joseph W Kane

Age 68, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Thurs., Feb. 20, 2014.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1966. He retired from the Wilmington Fire Department after 21 years of service. He also retired from Delaware Motor Vehicle after 17 years of service. He was very active and served as Post Commander of the American Legion Post #27 for the past 5 years.

He was very proud of his Irish heritage and was a member of New Castle County Irish Society.

Joe was the son of the late James F., Sr., and Agnes (Lenhoff) Kane. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Little Jimmy, Bill, Bob, Jack, James, Jr.; and sisters, Sissy, Kathy, and Aggie.

Joe is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Bonnie; his three daughters, Kim, Robin, and Lisa; his 12 grandchildren; his 6 great-grandchildren; and his brothers and their wives, Paul R. Kane, Sr. and Joanne, and Thomas J. Kane, Sr. and Linda.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony R. C. Church, 9th and duPont Sts., Wilmington, DE on Tues., Feb. 25, 2014 at 11:00 am. Friends may call at the Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere, on Monday, Feb. 24 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery.

Joe’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all of his caregivers from Delaware Hospice, especially LaTrina.
