Age 89, passed away peacefully with her family February 10, 2011.

Josephine was born in the Dobbinsville neighborhood of New Castle on July 14, 1921 to her parents the late Alexander and Sarah Garneski.

Josephine was the Salutatorian of St. Peter’s High School Class of 1939, where she was the editor of the school paper “The Key” for three years. She worked at Hoy’s 5 & 10¢ Store for three years and also worked in the shipping department at American Manganese Steel Plant in New Castle and Phillips Cannery in Newark. She operated Jay’s Kindergarten in the 60’s. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Church and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family.

Josephine married her husband. Joseph S. Barbizzi on Jan. 10, 1941; they spent 55 years together until Joe’s passing in 1996. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Victoria Tingle; and brother, Alec Garneski. She is survived by her children, Joseph Barbizzi and his wife Arlene, Janet Kindbeiter and her husband Larry; son-in-law, Earl Tingle, Sr.; brothers, John Garniewski and his wife Eleanor, Frank Garneski; sister, Cecilia Garneski; and sisters-in-law, Nancy DiAngelo and Louise Papili. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael Travers and his wife Barbara, Larry Kindbeiter and his wife Terri, Renee’ Gatelein and her husband Joe, Lauren and Nicole Kindbeiter, Earl Tingle, Jr., and his fiance’ Jamie, and Cathy Pryor and husband Tim; 13 great grandchildren, Sarah and Michael Travers, Alexandra, Nicholas, and JR Kindbeiter, Katie and Kelli Gatelein, Olivia Tingle, Stephen Lord, Patrick Cook, and Jessica, April and Tim Pryor; 5 step-grandchildren, and 9 step-great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and lifelong and devoted friend since childhood, Mildred Cole.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew’s Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington on Wednesday evening, February 16th at 7 p.m. Friends may call at the church from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. Interment in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear on Thursday, February 17th, at 11 a.m.
