Obituary for Lawrence G. "Larry " Falkowski

Lawrence G. "Larry " Falkowski
Lawrence (Larry) G. Falkowski of Newark, Del. passed away peacefully in the early morning light of Saturday, January 20, 2018 surrounded by his immediate family. Having fought an incredible eleven-year battle with cancer, he was courageous and spirited until the end. He was just 60 years old.
Larry was born in Wilmington, Del. on November 11, 1957, the youngest of 4 children to the late Edward and Cecilia Falkowski.
He graduated from Salesianum High School in 1975. For most of his working career, Larry was an IT Architect having last worked for 12 years at Astra Zeneca but that barely touched the surface of this remarkable individual. He was first and foremost a faithful husband to the love of his life Paula (Szczesiak) and father to their two remarkable sons, Andrew and Tyler. He and Paula were married for 33 years. He was utterly devoted and committed to his family.

Although he was dedicated and focused about all his work projects, his professional life was not his only passion. He loved woodworking and home improvement. From a simple desk or coffee table, to an ornate jewelry cabinet, he could build it all. One of his proudest accomplishments was a complete remodel of his and Paula’s master bathroom – a project which took five months and was completed while he was undergoing treatment. That project was something that he promised his wife that he would finish, and when Larry made a promise he kept it. Larry also spent several months with Paula remodeling his mother-in- law’s entire home. In fact, he cancelled their vacation plans to make sure the job was done. As with everything Larry did, it was truly a labor of love.

Larry was always first to volunteer his services especially when it came to his two boys. He spent over 15 years in the Boy Scouts as a scout, a father, and a leader to others. He loved camping and was quite the outdoorsman teaching those skills to his young boys, who were only two years apart. He was both an avid golfer and bowler, scoring a game high 280 on several occasions. If given the opportunity, he said he would play golf everyday if you let him. These skills may have seemed formative for one man but his true delight was finding the humor in daily life. There was hardly a situation that Larry did not find some humor to be pointed out. His wit was formidable and quick, and one would have to be on their toes to challenge him. To some, this was his most treasured trait and many would try to compete but few could!

Lastly, may it be said that he was a kind and gentle man to his family and friends alike and to all those to whom he came in contact. He made sure to cherish the little things in life and to never take a single day for granted. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Cecilia Falkowski.

Larry is survived by his wife Paula, and their two sons Andrew and Tyler; his brothers Paul, Edward and Patrick; and, his mother-in- law Helen Szczesiak.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
