Obituary for Patricia A Munley (Connell)

Patricia A Munley (Connell)

Patricia (Pat) Munley, nee Connell, age 83 of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. She was born in Wilmington on July 28, 1934 to the late John J. Connell, Sr. and Bridget V. (Hannon) Connell.

Pat attended St. Elizabeth’s High School and the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, both in Wilmington. During her work career, Pat was a devoted registered nurse in Wilmington area hospitals, including St. Francis Hospital and the Delaware State Hospital. Pat retired in 1996, and greatly enjoyed her retirement, in particular reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Pat had two clear passions: her family and her pets. Growing up, Pat was especially close to her three nieces (who were similar in age to Pat), the Gormley sisters (Marie, Marguerite and Kathleen). The amazing, funny and poignant stories these four ladies would regale about their life growing up in Wilmington will be forever remembered by family and friends. Pat also made many lifelong friends while in Nursing School at St. Francis.

Of course, anyone who knew Pat knew about her “six boys”. Pat’s pride and joy were her six sons, mentioned by name below. And Pat’s sons’ (and their wives/girlfriends and their kids) joy was seeing and spending time with Mom-Mom.

Pat also had her beloved pets. She loved her cats and dogs with equal fervor. Anyone who knew Pat will know the names Duke, Bear, Rusty, Sebastian, Bud and Mac (amongst many others!). Pat took great comfort in spoiling her little buddies, and they took equal satisfaction in giving Pat love and companionship.

Pat is survived by her six sons and their families: Joseph Patrick, his wife Michelle (Nugent) Munley, and their daughter Amelia; Thomas Peter, his wife Susan (Murray) Munley and their two sons Peter and Christian; Christopher John, his girlfriend Karen Griffin, and Chris’ five daughters: Amanda, Meghan, Sarah, Julie and Hailey; Timothy Paul and his son Nicholas; Daniel James, his wife Jiefen (Yao) Munley and their daughter Claire; and Kevin Barry and his wife Eku (Tanabe) Munley. She also leaves behind numerous loving great-grand kids, nieces, cousins and various other relatives and friends. Pat was predeceased by her eleven siblings, all of whom the family collectively call the “Connells of Wilmington”.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, May 31 at 12:00 noon at Holy Family Catholic Church, 15 Gender Rd, Newark, DE 19713. A viewing will be held for Pat at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19805, on Thursday, May 31, from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Pat in the past few years.

Donations may be made to the Delaware SPCA, 455 Stanton Christiana Road, Newark, DE 19713.
