Obituary for Paul D. Guenveur

Paul D.  Guenveur
Paul D. Guenveur, age 81, of Wilmington DE, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday May 3, 2011 at the Christiana Hospital.

He was born June 15, 1929, in Wilmington, DE to J. LaPenne Guenveur and Clare Maguyre Guenveur and spent his childhood hunting and farming on the property where he raised his family. He graduated from Salesianum High School in 1947, attended the University of Delaware for two years for Engineering before enlisting in the Navy where he was an Electronic Technician aboard the USS Jeffers. After completing his military service Paul returned to the U of D earning a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1956. That same year he began his Engineering career with the DuPont Company retiring after 36 years as a Project Manager. During his career he managed DuPont projects worldwide. He was an active member of the ISA International Society of Automation holding various leadership positions and earned several Distinguished Society Awards.

Paul was an avid golfer in the DuPont Engineering league and enjoyed skiing, sharing his beach home in Lewes DE, boating, sailing around the Caribbean Islands, cruising the world with his wife, fishing and crabbing with his children, nieces and grandchildren. He was a kind and gentle man and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise G. Thornton, and Margaret G. Sedwick; his brother, James LaPenne Guenveur; and his grandson, Kyle Strawbridge. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Rodger Guenveur; three daughters, Anne Strawbridge and her husband Andrew of Kennett Square,PA, Michele Guenveur-Short and her husband Bill of Newark,DE, Susan McDonald and her husband Brian of Wilmington, DE; two sons, Paul D. Guenveur Jr. and his wife Barbara of N. Augusta, SC, Ted Guenveur of Los Angeles,CA ; seven grandchildren, Hillary Strawbridge, Philip, Timothy and Patrick McDonald, Michael, James and Evan Short; his sisters, Clare Downes, and MaryJane Cox; and his brother, Robert C. Guenveur.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home,1400 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere, DE, on Monday, May 9th at 5:30 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday afternoon. Interment is private on Tuesday, May 10th, in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, Wilmington.
