Obituary for Walter A. Janocha Sr.

Walter B. Janocha, Sr.

Age 87, went home to be with Our Lord on Sat., Oct. 29, 2011, with his devoted wife, Mary, by his side.

Born on Valentine’s Day, 1924, in Baltimore, MD, Mr. Janocha touched the hearts of all who had the pleasure to know him – he never met a stranger.

Mr. Janocha graduated from St. Charles College and St. Mary’s Seminary, and he earned his Masters of Education from the University of Delaware. As a special education teacher at George Read and Charles Bush School, he earned the respect and admiration of his students and co-workers. He was a man of conviction and lived his life in service to others. He was instrumental in bringing special education into the public school system, and he devoted much of his life to the pro-life movement.

As a founding member of Delaware Right to Life and editor of “Lifeline”, he gave a voice to the unborn. A devout Roman Catholic, Mr. Janocha was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Parish, New Castle. He loved the Latin Mass, sang in the Regina Coeli choir, and made countless rosaries for missions around the world. His gift of music, love of the arts, and sense of humor continue on in his children and grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary (Buzgierska) Janocha; his ten children, Walter Jr., Mark (Kathy), Matt (Sue), John, Luke (Kim), Celeste (Matt) Epstein, Paul, Mary (Angelo) Rispoli, Michael (Ellie), and Damien; 27 grandchildren, Christyn, Steve, James, Melissa, Chris, Mattie, Lauren, Joey, Olivia, Brad, Ben, Brianna, Eric, Zach, Sam, Kayleigh, Cassandra, Ivy, Grace, Lilly, Levi, Mason, AJ, Alex, Dominic, Kelli, and Ashley; and 3 great-grandchildren, Vada, JJ, and Brandon.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Fri., Nov. 4, at 10:00 am at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 5th and Harmony Sts., New Castle, DE. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Thurs., Nov. 3, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Newark, DE.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Mr. Janocha’s memory to Delaware Right to Life, PO Box 1222, Wilmington, DE 19899 or Emmanuel Dining Room, 121 N. Jackson St., Wilmington, DE 19805.
