Obituary for William F. Steele

William “Bill” Steele

Passed away peacefully on September 29, 2010, surrounded by his family.

Bill was born in New Castle, DE on August 23, 1943, son of the late James and Margaret Steele.

Bill graduated from St. Peter High School in New Castle and Widener University. After serving at the Pentagon while in the Army, he began his career with the State of Delaware. He later served as the Director of Personnel for New Castle County under County Executive Dennis Greenhouse. Bill also served as Councilman for the City of New Castle. He was an avid member of the New Castle Hundred Lions Club. He was the current President of the New Castle County Board of Elections.

He was a life long New York Yankees fan and a proud Democrat, Irishman, and Delawarean. He enjoyed golfing, cruising, and vacations with his family.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Georgann and children, Blake Yule and his wife Janet, Sean Yule and his partner Gui, Jason Tinurelli and his partner Jay, Kevin Steele and his wife Stephanie, Danielle Trunnell and her husband Chris, and Ashlinn Steele. Bill enjoyed being Pop Pop to Caitlyn, Jack, Delaney, Patricia, Hailey, Emma, Madison, Brayden, Peyton, and Ethan. He is also survived by his brother, James Steele and his wife Dotty; his sister, Mary Ann and her husband Bob; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Dr. Falchuk, Dr. Collins, and Dr. Ackerman and their staff, as well as the staff at Helen Graham, and the Christiana Hospital 6B and ICU3E Units.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter R. C. Church, 5th & Harmony Sts., New Castle, on Saturday, October 2nd at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the church Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment in adjoining church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to the New Castle Hundred Lions Club, P.O. Box 462, New Castle, DE 19720, or the Helen F. Graham Cancer Ctr., 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Rd., Newark, DE 19713.
